Professor Mujahid Beg, Proctor of the Aligarh Muslim University on June 9 issued a show cause notice to 24 students who were placed under suspension and were also placed out of bound from the University campus. The students have been asked to submit their reply to the Proctor within seven days from the receipt of the show cause notice, failing which it will be presumed that they have nothing to say in their defence and ex parte action will be initiated against these students.

These students along with a group of hooligans and ruffians have reportedly used un-parliamentary language, using public address system, against the senior University officials and attempted to disturb law and order in the campus. Further, it has been reported that some of the students and outsiders with ruffians riding on motor bikes went to different halls of residence, disturbed the students who were busy in preparing for their examinations and also tried to mobilise and force them to reach the dharna site to destabilise the academic atmosphere of the campus.
