Shamail Nabi, President Urdu Council of India, while charging the government for allegedly undermining the Urdu language demanded that Urdu be made the second national language of India. For this purpose a nationwide Urdu conference is planned in February 2013. He was addressing the press conference in Patna along with RJD MLA Akhtarul Iman and former vice-chancellor of Magadh University Dr. Major Balbeer Singh “Mureed.”

It was argued that Urdu should be saved and government, at its end, has not done anything concrete so as to preserve it. There has been a dearth of Urdu teachers, Urdu books and Urdu medium schools.

“Urdu is not just the language of Muslims but the language for the whole nation,” said Major Balbeer Singh “Mureed.” He said that “Nitish government had declared in a conference on Oct 7, 2009 that there will be a Urdu teacher in every school but not only it has not fulfilled its promise but it has failed to even replace teachers who have retired.”
