The attack on the fishing boat by the U.S. warship in the Persian Gulf, killing an Indian citizen and injuring three others shall serve as a wake-up call to the Indian administration.  The heavy build-up by the Fifth Fleet of the U.S. Navy in the region has already created a warlike situation endangering the lives and livelihood of about six million Indians living in the region.  Any misadventure by the U.S or Israel on Iran could engulf the entire region into another irreversible turmoil. It is unfortunate that a large democracy like India should have kowtowed to the U.S. demand by cutting short the crude oil import from a time-tested friendly nation like Iran.  Instead of being a passive onlooker to the unfolding chaos, India should play a proactive role by bringing together the international community to build pressure on the ‘U.S-Israel combine’ to find an amicable solution with Iran over its nuclear programme.
