The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat has welcomed in principle the proposed division of UP in 4 units, however the President of AIMMM, Mr. Syed Shahabuddin, in a press statement said that such a comprehensive proposal should be seen in the context of similar demands for creation of small states in various parts of the country and cannot be decided in isolation for one state. He said apart from Awadh and Bundelkhand, the other two units do not represent linguistic, cultural and ethnic unity, hence the finalisation on the matter must await the 2011 census. There are also some areas particularly Bhojpuri speaking which are divided between Bihar and UP, just as Bundelkhand is divided between UP and Madhya Pradesh.
AIMMM requested the Central Government to form the Second States Reorganisation Commission at an early date and place the UP proposal before it along with other demands.
