A delegation of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) met with Jagdambika Pal, Chairperson of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024, on august 23 to express their objections to the proposed amendments.
According to an AIMPLB statement, the Chairperson listened attentively to the concerns raised and assured the delegation that the Board and other Muslim organizations would be given ample opportunity to present their views before the committee.
Led by AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Muhammad Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, the delegation detailed their objections to each of the proposed amendments. They argued that the Bill significantly diminishes the powers of the Waqf Board and places critical decision-making authority in the hands of the Collector.
The AIMPLB has called for the immediate withdrawal of the Bill, warning that the removal of the ‘Waqf-by-User’ clause would pave the way for the occupation of mosques, cemeteries, and dargahs.
The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for August 30, during which various stakeholders will present their views.
