Received Issue No. 20 of Radiance dated 24 August 2024. Read various articles about Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024 by eminent writers. All the writers have thoroughly studied the provisions of the said act and have done hair-splitting analysis. They have given full justice to the subject. Thanks to them for enlightening the readers of Radiance on the issue of Waqf Act.

After reading all the articles, one is compelled to believe that the proposed bill is a calculated attempt to dispossess the Muslims of Waqf assets. Some 44 amendments have been proposed in the Waqf Act, 1995. The Samajwadi MP Akhilesh Yadav is perfectly right when he says, “Waqf board lands are just another link in the chain of schemes for the benefit of BJP members….” What is the point of including non-Muslims in Waqf Boards when this is not done in other religious bodies?”

In short, the proposed bill’s provisions are anti-Muslim and anti-Constitution. I appeal to Muslims and secular Indians to oppose the bill in toto.

Docs Need Better Safety

If doctors across the country are protesting in rage against the rape-murder of a fellow doctor in Kolkata, one can only sympathise with them. Doctors are medical professionals who put in long hours at hospitals and clinics, often sacrificing their personal happiness and comforts. They may even have to rush to their workplace in the middle of the night to attend to an emergency case where their presence could make all the difference between life and death. So, if they are demanding more safety measures, the demand should be considered in all seriousness.

Foreign Airlines Cancel Flights to Israel

The ongoing genocidal war of Israel in Gaza is telling badly upon the economy not only of Gaza and the Middle East but of Israel and Western countries like France. Ten foreign airlines cancelled their flights to Israel on August 25 amid a cross-border escalation with the Lebanese group Hezbollah. Citing Israeli public broadcaster KAN, a report said that major carriers, including Air France and the Dutch Transavia, have suspended their operations in Israel.Other airlines that cancelled flights include the Hungarian Wizz Air, Malta-based Corendon, Ethiopian Airlines, the Greek Aegean Airlines, and the Greek Universal Airlines.Since late July, 20 international airlines have cancelled their flights to Israel, driven by growing fears of a potential regional war in the Middle East.

The potential regional war in the Middle East seems to be imminent. If it so happens, it will cause immense death and destruction in the Middle East region. But it is the natural corollary of the scenario in which manufacturers and suppliers of weapons of mass destruction thrive. In view of the lurking danger of escalation of war in the Middle East and for the sake of world peace, the United States and other countries ought to impose a blanket ban on the manufacture and supply of weapons of mass destruction. This is the way we can avert wars in future and translate the dream of world peace into reality.
