Floods in Bihar have so far claimed 38 lives. The floods which have spread across 20 districts have affected 1,364 villages and approximately 18 lakh people, including destruction of ten thousand homes. The affected districts include Bhojpur, Bhagalpur, Vaishali, West Champaran, Saharsa, Muzaffarpur and others. Many rivers of the state are flowing above the danger sign and the low lying areas are the worst affected. The deluge has caused the loss of crops amounting to 47 crores.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar did the aerial visit of the affected areas and in a meeting with the Department of Water Resources and Director of Management ordered the officials to accelerate the relief work and reposed the responsibility of the relief work to the chief secretary, Mr. Anup Mukherjee.
