An Israeli security guard on 21 June shot dead a visitor at Jerusalem’s Western Wall, the site where Jews can pray, apparently mistaking him for a Palestinian. The visitor was reported a Jew but other reports say that he had come to the fold of Islam and this is why he was chanting Allah-u-Akbar. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said, “There was a Jewish guy, an Israeli guy, who was in the bathroom area. He for some reason shouted Allah-u-Akbar. A security guard drew his weapon and fired several shots at the suspect … He died from his wounds a few moments ago.”
Privately-owned Channel 10 cited witnesses as saying that the guard fired between seven and 10 bullets, that the fire was unjustified, and that the man appeared to be a harmless eccentric.Ynet quoted witnesses as saying that the guard did not fire warning shots or attempt to disable the man but shot directly at his chest.
