Engineer Khalid Ali, who was arrested under National Security Act on 10 December 2012, was released on 25 March in absence of any evidence against him, reports Urdu daily Inquilab. The police had arrested him on the pretext of his having played a pivotal role in the communal riot in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh on 1 June 2012 which has claimed 4 Muslim lives. Talking to the daily, the engineer said, “The police charged me with money laundering and said that I was an agent of Pakistan. The media and other fascist forces tried to implicate me in terror cases. But it was Allah who helped me acquit of all charges.” He further appreciated the efforts of his wife Zeenat Begum, who took the matter to the media and invited the social organisations to fight for her husband’s acquittal.
