Muslim groups in Hyderabad have demanded a fresh probe into the 2007 bomb blast at Makka Masjid following the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) revelation that the 2007 blasts at the historic mosque and the Ajmer shrine were linked with Hindutva terror groups. The CBI and Rajasthan’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) believe that the blast at the Hyderabad mosque and the Khwaja Moinuddin Chisthi dargah in Ajmer are the handiwork of same group. The CBI, which is probing the Makka Masjid blast, reportedly got some leads after the Rajasthan ATS arrested Devender Gupta and Chandrasekhar Patidar of Abhinav Bharat in connection with the Ajmer dargah blast that killed three and injured 30 people. The Makka Masjid blast had claimed nine lives. Five people had died in subsequent police firing on protestors near the mosque. Muslim groups are now demanding from the CBI to reopen the mosque blast cases and probe the involvement of Hindutva activists, including Col S. P. Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who also belong to Abhinav Bharat and are accused in a 2008 bombing in Malegaon in Maharashtra. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has also demanded a fresh probe into the Makkah Masjid blast in the light of new evidence suggesting the involvement in it of groups. All India Congress Committee General Secretary Digvijay Singh has also sought a probe into the possible links between Devendra Gupta – recently arrested in connection with the 2007 Ajmer Sharief blast case – and Sunil Joshi, an alleged RSS worker who was killed in Mau in Madhya Pradesh.
