GAZA’S FEMALE LAWYERS ASKED TO WEAR HIJAB

Gaza’s Supreme Court Chief Justice has ordered female lawyers to wear headscarves when they appear in courts. Chief Justice Abdul-Raouf Halabi says he issued this headscarves order to conform with Islamic law, which says it is forbidden for a woman to show her hair in public. Hamas came to power in Gaza in June 2007 and has taken a series of steps in recent months that aim at implementing Islamic Shari’ah.
