The article “The Story of Gopal Dass and Dr. Khalil Chisty” by Mr. Sultan Mohiddin (Radiance Viewsweekly, 22-28 May 2011) was thought-provoking. The author has made an in-depth study of the issue of prisoners’ life. We shall thank Pakistani authorities who freed Indian national Gopal Dass, whose jail term was cut short by President Asif Ali Zardari on humanitarian grounds after he had spent 27 years in prison.
“I have a grudge against the Indian leadership who has never bothered about Indian prisoners rotting in prisons in Pakistan for the last many years. Thirty-two Indian nationals, who have completed their jail term, are still languishing due to lack of initiative on the part of the Indian Government,” he claimed. Our Government must pay attention to this important issue.
I thank Radiance as well as the writer for carrying such a heartfelt article.
