A grand Jirga of Pashtuns from Afghanistan and Pakistan has been held in northwestern Pakistan where the elders demanded speeding up efforts to end more than ten years of US-led war in their region, Press TV reports. During a two-day Qaami Jirga in city of Peshawar, Pashtuns stressed that the years-long insecurity, unrest and violence in their region have been caused by the US invasion of Afghanistan.
The gathering, which aimed at efforts for restoration of peace and security in the region, was attended by high ranking officials from northwest Pakistan, leaders of several political parties, tribal elders and delegates from Afghanistan and European countries. “The so-called war on terror has caused the lives of nearly three million Pashtuns in Pakistan and Afghanistan. This unending slaughter is still going on in both the counties. Therefore, they have gathered here to work out a solution to end more than ten years of conflict and bloodshed,” veteran politician Afzal Khan Lala told Press TV.
