The Supreme Court-appointed SIT for 2002 post-Godhra riots on June 7 quizzed former Gujarat chief minister Suresh Mehta. SIT had earlier issued summons to Mehta to depose before the committee. In the four-hour interrogation, SIT officials asked Mehta about the happenings on February 27 and February 28, 2002. Sources said the former minister told SIT that despite law and order situation completely in control and no unruly incident reported from anywhere in the state, on February 28, 2002, the state government adjourned the state assembly session on the day.

Sources said that days before SIT submitted its third report to Supreme Court in April, Mehta had in a letter seeking permission to depose before the committee, stating that he had information that could be of help in 2002 post-Godhra riot investigation.
