The arguments on Zakia Jafri’s protest petition, that challenged the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) closure report giving clean chit to Chief Minister Narendra Modi and other accused, will resume from June 3, the Metropolitan magistrate ordered on 15 May. The magistrate, B J Ganatra, whose routine transfer was revoked following the Supreme Court’s intervention, fixed June 3 for resuming the arguments which will be heard on day-to-day basis. The lawyers representing both Zakia and SIT had appeared before the court to get a date to start the case again. Earlier, SIT had argued for six days against the protest petition in which they termed the allegations against Modi and others as “fiction”. During the hearings, SIT opposed the petition saying that all the allegations were based on “hearsay”. The SIT had also criticized suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt for “manipulating” evidences and claimed that he was not “reliable”.
