Human Welfare Foundation, a national NGO working for the uplift of weaker sections of the society educationally, economically and socially, under its Vision 2016 programme, organised an Iftar Party for 550 rickshaw pullers and labourers of Okhla at Milli Model School in the Capital on August 27.
Besides inviting rickshaw pullers and labourers for Iftar, the aim was to convey some important message of Islam to them and encourage them to practise Islamic idealsof cleanliness and hygiene.
On this occasion,HWF also distributed a set of kurta and pajamato each of these rickshaw pullers and labourers so that they can wear new clothes on Eid and enjoy the festival as common people.
HWT reached an agreement withthe Manager of Indian Bank, JamiaMilliaIslamia Branch, to open zero balance saving accounts for rickshaw pullers with minimum documents along with ATM facilities. On this occasion of Iftar Party one person got ATM by Branch Manager SaeedMohammad.
The Foundation is also preparing a database of the rickshaw pullers in the area with essential details so as to use the same for further interventions like adult education,healthinsurance, medical check-up and micro loan facilities.
Besides this, HWF,in collaboration with its affiliate NGO HWT, also distributedrickshaws to needy rickshaw pullers. The rickshaw distribution programme is under self-employment scheme and the purpose is to make the rickshaw pullers self-dependentso that by this way they might increase their earnings.
