The Indian American Muslim Council, on 5 June, criticised the government of Uttar Pradesh for merely accepting the Nimesh Commission Report and deferring the “Action Taken Report” until the next session of the state assembly. “Mujahid’s case is symptomatic of the bigger problem of pervasiveness of human rights abuses across the country and the continued denial of justice just before victims,” said Mr.Ahsan Khan, President of IAMC.
The report had been submitted by the commission on 31 August 2012 but the government accepted it only on 4 June 2013. It is believed that the Commission has established the claims that both Qasmi and Mujahid were arrested well before the date given by the police and kept in illegal custody. The report has recommended prosecution of police personnel involved in the case.Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court, on 7 June, stayed the SP’s process of withdrawal of terror charges against those falsely implicated in terror cases.
