Israel’s religious intolerance and mistreatment of Palestinian prisoners during the holy month of Ramadhan is “appalling,” a British lawmaker was reported as saying. Persecution of vast number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody during Ramadhan flies in the face of the UN and the European Conventions on Human Rights, Jeremy Corbyn said in an interview to Press TV. “The amount of food and liquid that those poor prisoners are getting on the basis of the report, we just heard, is the equivalent of being on a hunger strike, like an enforced starvation. Goodness knows what their condition is going to be like at the end of Ramadhan if that is all they’re getting to eat and all the liquid they’re getting. It is a very hot time of the year. The conditions are pretty bad. This is disgraceful,” he added. The “cruel and unusual punishment” of Palestinian prisoners and the deliberate mistreatment of them is “completely unnecessary because the Palestinian prisoners are celebrating a religious festival,” Corbyn noted.
