Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has welcomed the move of the government of Uttar Pradesh to allow the construction of fences around the graveyards and called it an important decision taken by the UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his team. It must be remembered that JIH has always pressed for the fencing of graveyards so as to prevent it from the illegal occupation and unnecessary legal battles that it had to fight to claim its own lands.

The assistant secretary of JIH, Mr. Intizar Naeem last year wrote letters to the UP government’s chief secretary and to the UP Waqf Board and drew attention of the authorities to desperate need to fence the lands. Beside he wrote extensively to all other states and union territories and pressed for the same demand.

Mr. Naeem has congratulated the UP chief minister for his decision to build fences and asked him to chalk out the time frame and funds for the implementation of the decision. He further hoped that other states would also follow the suit and work to protect waqf lands.
