Ever since the news of riots in Assam broke out, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind turned on its toes and started the relief work with immediate effect. The relief work has been going on since then and so far the Jamaat has been able to provide relief to more than 15000 families who bore the brunt of the brutal violence.
On the occasion of Eid, it distributed Eid Kits with which more than 75000 people got benefited. The Jamaat has also provided judicial help and has formed a team of experts who are helping the victims in registering their complaints to police, in recovering their property papers, etc. With the help of its activists more than 5000 named complaints have been registered as yet. Apart from the legal help, it has also made arrangements for providing necessary items for the camps and it is also providing medical help along with supervising cleanliness and hygiene in camps. Efforts are also being made to reduce tensions between Bodos and Muslims and arrangements for the return of Muslims to their homes are also being made.
The Jamaat has traced 65 camps which accommodate 16250 families (75000 individuals) and is working hard to provide them with basic amenities. To know the better picture of the conflict and victims, it is continuously doing surveys of the area. Those in need of medical aid are being looked after by the medical team formed by the Jamaat. Islamic values are being taught to the victims and the demoralised are being given moral support and motivation. So far more than 45 lakh rupees has been spent on the relief work in Assam.
