With hearing in three out of the four cases consolidated under the Babri Masjid Ram Janmabhoomi title suit concluding this month, the courtroom battle over the ownership and possession of the historical Mosque could be finally inching to a close. The possibility has led to frenetic activity in both rival camps. While VHP is hosting a conclave in Ayodhya to evolve a post-verdict strategy, the Babri Masjid Action Committee and All-India Sunni Waqf Board are exploring their options. The special bench of three judges of Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court comprising Justice S.U. Khan, Justice Sudhir Agrawal and Justive D.V. Sharma began hearing in the last suit Bhagwan Shri Ramlala Virajmaan versus Rajendra Singh on July 12. “The court has asked all the concerned parties to conclude their argument by July 30,” said Zafaryab Jilani, a lawyer to the plaintiff Sunni Waqf Board in the leading suit. Interestingly, 11 witnesses supporting the existence of mosque happen to be Hindus, says Jilani. The list has the names of historians including Prof. Suraj Bhan, Prof. D. Mandal, Dr. Sita Ram Rai, Prof. S.C. Shrivastava, Prof. R.C. Thakural, Dr. Jaya Menon and Dr. Ashok Dutta.
