Libyan rebels after the fierce battle have finally managed to take control of Tripoli, and have seized the intelligence base of Gaddafi along with the key border that the country shares with Tunisia, however the prime target, tyrant and despot Muammar Gaddafi is yet to be arrested and is still on the run. The National Transitional Council which represents the anti Gaddafi forces of Libya has urged the rebels to join one, United National Army, however the AU refrains from giving the NTC recognition.
Scores of political prisoners who were imprisoned by Gaddafi because of their open opposition to the despot have been released by the rebels. Around 107 political prisoners held captive in the Abu Salim prison have returned to their homes.
The now abandoned homes of the Gaddafi’s family are pointing to their plush lifestyles and opulence. The residents of Tripoli are doing the rounds of these compounds which testify to the ruler’s extravagance.
