The Karnataka state government, which had constituted a high-level committee to look into the alleged encroachment of Wakf board property across the State, has now decided to hand over the investigation to the Lokayukta. A statement from the Chief Minister’s office said the announcement made to the press on May 21 had been revoked. “After reconsidering the seriousness of the report submitted by the Karnataka State Minorities Commission about the allegation of encroachment of Wakf property, it has been decided that an inquiry by the Lokayukta is necessary,” the release said.
