Mohammad Ilyas, who had come to the capital to attend the annual convocation in Jamia Millia Islamia, was taken aback when some thieves snatched his baggage barely 100 meters from the Kashmiri Gate police station. The moment he got off the train the thieves stalked him and overpowered him. They took away his luggage and when he went to the police station to file an FIR the police showed a very indifferent attitude towards him. He even memorised the vehicle number of the thieves however the police kept on dilly-dallying. The police even took him to the spot where the snatching had taken place but even after relentless arguments they did not file the FIR. The victim does reporting for the Hindi and Urdu dailies and is also a social activist.
Mr. Tasleem Ahmad Rahmani, president, Muslim Political Council of India, expressed remorse over the incident and urged the SHO of the police station to find out the real culprits. Meanwhile, Ilyas has said that he is willing to give cash prize to the one who brings back his luggage which contains his important documents.
