The Left parties have admitted that the Third Front was “not seen by the people as a credible and viable alternative at the national level” and the minorities staying away as a big reason for its debacle. A statement released by the CPM and top CPI leaders who met in the Capital confirmed this. The statement says, “Certain sections of people have been alienated” and that it “will make all out efforts to regain the support and confidence of those sections.” The party sources confirmed that the reference is to minorities. In the CPI meeting, too, this was seen as a “serious concern.” “It could be because people were worried that Advani would become the PM. But the actual reasons behind the alienation will only be known once the state committees will present their reports,” CPI leader D Raja was reported as saying.
