Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, who has been in the news since his stand against the tainted Gujarat chief minister, said in an open letter that Mr. Modi has “completely misconstrued” the Supreme Court order on the complaint of Zakia Jafri and there was nothing in the order to give him reason to celebrate.
Zakia, widow of former MP Ehsan Jafri killed in the Gulberg Housing Society carnage in 2002, had filed a complaint in the SC, seeking action against Modi and other government officials. However on September 12, the Court declined to pass any order on Modi’s alleged inaction and left it to Magistrate’s Court to decide the fate of Modi.
Bhatt further states that the Court has nowhere said that Zakia Jafri’s allegations were false. “In fact, it is a major leap in the direction of delivering justice to the hapless victims of the Gujarat pogrom,” Bhatt states in his letter.
Bhatt accuses Modi of playing divisive politics of hatred. “As one of the ‘six crore Gujaratis’, I feel deeply pained and cheated when the likes of you, consciously or inadvertently, mislead Gujaratis for ulterior motives,” Bhatt writes.
Bhatt spilled the beans abut the Modi government by claiming that he was present in the meeting held on February 27, 2002, where Modi told police officers to go soft on rioters.
