A delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Maharashtra under the leadership of Shaikh Mateen (State Secretary) and Hafeez Farooqui (PR Secretary) visited those injured in the violence of Azad Maidan on August 13. They visited GT Hospital, St. George Hospital and JJ Hospital wherein all the injured are admitted. The delegation also visited families of two youth who had died in police firing and offered them some instant cash relief.

The 10-member delegation, comprised of state and local leaders, was personally sent by Mr. Taufiq Aslam (JIH State President). In included Aslam Ghazi (National and International Affairs Secretary), Hafeez Farooqui (PR Secretary), Taher Ali Khan (JIH Md Ali Road President), Mubeen Ansari (JIH Madanpura President), Md Naeem Mujawar (State Medial Social Service In-charge).

Aslam Ghazi said, “We heard them and wished them well.  We also offered them medical and legal help, if they require so, but they are self-sufficient and ready to manage expenses; and the treatment in the hospital is also free.” We will also donate to the Commissioner of police welfare fund for the injured policemen, added Ghazi.

The delegation personally met injured Muslims, Non-Muslims, policemen and media people, enquired about their conditions, prayed for their good health and assured them all possible help. Also, they conveyed them that they came to visit only on humanitarian ground and they can call JIH in the hour of need.

Hafeez Faruqui said, “Only humans can come forward to help human beings in their difficult times. JIH, always being on the forefront in maintaining peace and harmony among different communities, felt it’s our responsibility to visit you.” He also assured victims that it’s his religious and human responsibility to stand with them and help them as much as possible. We also have to take sufficient precautions not to repeat such incidents”, he added.

The protest against atrocities on Muslims in Assam and Burma called by few Muslim organisations on August 11 at Azad Maidan turned violent when the mob got instigated after the protest, which left two persons dead and several people including policemen and media persons injured. According to the police, two people were killed in police firing, and many others were injured when they opened lathi-charge and fired tear gas shells to control them.
