Mr. Syed Shahabuddin, President All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, in a statement on Oct 25, offered its cordial felicitations to the fraternal people of Libya on their liberation from those long years of authoritarian rule and conveyed its best wishes for their progress and development.

The Mushawarat urged the Libyan Transition Council to pave the way for urgent steps to give a stable and peaceful administration to the country and announce a schedule for electing a National Constituent Assembly and set up groups of eminent constitutional and legal experts to draft the Constitution and then for holding general election.

In the meantime the interim Government of Libya must publish the details of the agreements that Libya has signed with foreign governments or oil companies for exploration, production, refining and export of oil which indeed belongs to the people of Libya and must be used for their development and progress. Another important task is to retrieve the enormous wealth stashed by Mr. Gaddafi and his family out of Libya.

The Mushawarat shared the general unhappiness among the friends of Libya that Mr. Gaddafi was killed after he had surrendered according to the press reports. “Perhaps this was done without any authorisation from the Council. Had he been alive, he would have been tried by the International Criminal Court for his crimes against the Libyan people like the leaders of Serbia and Bosnia were. The AIMMM hopes that since the circumstances and the manner of Mr. Gaddafi’s death have raised several questions, the Libyan authorities shall issue a statement to clarify what exactly happened to set all speculations at rest,” the statement said.
