After the heavy shelling from the Israelis, which continued for eight days and finally resulted in truce, the situation seems to be a bit normal. However, this normal situation is just for a short while and Israel will attack again, said Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan, Editor Milli Gazette, at the weekly programme organised by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind at its headquarters in the Capital on November 24.

Dwelling upon the historical part for a short while, he mentioned the creation of Israel in which they got around 56 per cent of the land and the Palestinians had to satisfy themselves with just 44 per cent. However, they did not even get the promised 44 per cent. Exposing the sinister and inhumane side of Israel, he said the time when Israel started shelling on Gaza was 11:30 in the morning. In Gaza schools run in two shifts and 11:30 is the time when the first shift gets over and the second starts. Israel deliberately chose this time so as to inflict maximum damage to the innocent children. It was the time when maximum numbers of children were on streets, he added.

The Israelis used the Iron Dome system to quell the short range rockets that were being fired by the Hamas. Immediately after the attack, India, the fourth largest buyer of arms from Israel, asked to buy the system. Many times weapons are used in wars in order to display their stealth which would eventually fetch buyers. Hence the present shelling could also be to put to display the new weapons so as to find buyers.

Another important point to which Dr. Khan directed the attention was the increasing stealth and fighting capacity of Hamas. Earlier, it was believed that local groups would not be able to take over Israel or would be able to withstand the assaults from Israel unless Muslim armies from the neighbouring countries join the cause with them. However, Hamas now seems to be capable of dealing with Israel single-handedly. He further said that the ceasefire or the truce was the need of Israel and this is the reason why Hillary Clinton immediately came to Israel and met with Mahmoud Abbas and went to Egypt that finally brokered peace between the two.

Ending on a positive note, he said the winds are now changing as Palestine is becoming capable of handling the things alone. It also has support from the international community where majority of nations are in favour of its recognition whereas there are a few who still stand with Israel.
