Political parties in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are raking in big bucks from the donations. Every year a whopping Rs. 97 crores gets stashed into the lockers of parties, however many of them have not yet filed income tax returns. The FIU (Financial Intelligence Unit) has come up with the report which says that out of the total of 1203 parties registered by the central election commission, 305 have not filed income tax returns. In UP and Uttarakhand alone the numbers go up to 62. People who have donated these amounts have made a mention of it in their returns, whereas the political parties have made no mention of it. The Income Tax Department is now planning to issue notices to the parties on the basis of the report submitted by FIU.
