Ramees EK has been elected National President of SIO of India for the term 2023-24 on the first day of All ZACs (Zonal Advisory Councils) meet at Aurangabad, Maharashtra held from 2 to 4 December 2022. The ZACs meet also elected Central Advisory Council (CAC) members for the new term.

The new President in consultation with new CAC members nominated Salman Khan of Maharashtra South as General Secretary and Anees Rahman (Kerala), Abdullah Faiz (Telangana), Sk Imran Hossain (West Bengal), Roshan Muhyuddin (Andhra Pradesh), Obaidur Rahman Naufal (Delhi), Shaikh Munawwar Hussain (Gujarat) and Sultan Hussain (Tripura) as Secretaries for the new term.

Ramees EK hails from Kuttiyadi in Kozhikode district of Kerala. He has completed his MA in Political Science from the University of Hyderabad. He is currently pursuing PhD in Political Science from Jamia Millia Islamia. He served as a member of Zonal Advisory Council of SIO Kerala from 2016 to 2018 and edited its online magazine Campus Alive for one year. Before his current responsibility, he was the Campus Secretary of SIO Delhi in 2019-20 term.

At HCU, he was at the forefront of students movement, demanding justice and security for marginalised students in campuses in the aftermath of Dalit Scholar Rohith Vemula’s killing. At Jamia, he was among the student leaders spearheading the agitation against CAA-NRC.
