Brazen Hate Speech
The three-day ‘Dharma Sansad’ was held by the controversial Hindutva figure Yati Narsinghanand from December 17 to 19, where multiple speakers made calls to kill minorities and attack their religious places.
Leaders of several far-right groups have called for ethnic cleansing of India’s 200 million Muslims. This brazen move has sparked massive outrage and calls for stern action against them.
The event was also attended by BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay, who has previously been arrested for an event he helped organise where slogans were raised calling for violence against Muslims, and BJP Mahila Morcha leader Udita Tyagi, giving the event a level of political encouragement from the ruling party.
This open patronage by BJP politicians seems to have given confidence to the ‘Dharma Sansad’ organiser not only to allow hate speech, but rather encourage it. Media silence over the event is also telling. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushakr Dhami must raise a voice against those taking the law of the land into their hands and threatening peace and order in the country. Persistent questions need to be asked about what action has been taken by the state police against the Hindutva organisations and their leaders, who openly called for genocide of minorities.
Enough is Enough! Arrest the Culprits!
It was reported that a three-day Dharma Sansad was held in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, a BJP-run state, from 17 to 19 December, 2021. It was reportedly organised by Yati Narsinghanand, the head priest of a temple in Ghaziabad, who has reputation for making inflammatory speeches.
The Hindutva and BJP leaders at Haridwar event called for Muslim genocide. They included Swami Prabodhananda Giri, Sadhvi Annapurna and Swami Anand Swaroop. The Sadhvi gave a direct call for the mass murder of Muslims. She said, “Nothing is possible without weapons. If you want to eliminate their population then kill them. Be ready to kill and be ready to go to jail.”
The local law and order authority and central government are mere silent spectators. Enough is enough! Arrest the culprits and take severe action against them.

Russian Prez Respects All Religions
Speaking at the annual news press conference on December 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that insulting Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is a “violation of religious freedom and the violation of the sacred feelings of people who profess Islam.”
The Russian president also spoke out against users posting photos of Nazis on sites dedicated to Russians who had died in World War II while explaining that such acts lead to reprisals like the Charlie Hebdo incident after cartoons of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ were published by the magazine which later led to a terror attack on its office in Paris.
While praising artistic freedom in general, Putin said it has its limits and it should not infringe on other freedoms. Russia has evolved as a multi-ethnic and multi-confessional state, so Russians, he said, are used to respecting each other’s traditions.
Russian President’s statement is welcome. We hope his administration will implement it in letter and spirit, and our country would learn a lesson from Russia.
