Salman Khursheed Chairs Round-Table on Muslim Development Agenda

Muslim Members of Parliament, intellectuals and Ulama’s Round-Table on Muslim Development Agenda was organised jointly by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) and National Economic Forum for Muslims (NEFM) in the capital on July 14. Mr. Salman Khursheed, Union Minister for Minority Affairs attended the Round-Table as the Chief Guest and delivered concluding speech while Members of Parliament like Mr. Ali Anwar, Abdur Rahman, Saeed Malihabadi, Sharief Ud Din Shariq and Mohammed Adeeb expressed their views on the issue.

The participants discussed Ranganath Mishra Commission Report and Sachar Committee Recommendations and their implementation, granting proportionate political  representation to minorities, removal of Article 341 (3) the religion-based discrimination clause and expanding overall OBC quota, including more Muslim castes, restoration of Wakf properties, Prime Minister’s 15-point programme for the educational, political economic and social development of the Muslim community.

A joint action plan and road map was prepared to set up a Monitoring and Response Centre for research, response, coordination and delivering at the national and state levels, and to effect coordination of MPs for implementation of Ranganath Mishra Commission report and for other major political and social issues.

Mr. Wajahat Habibullah, Chief Information Commissioner, Mr. Kamal Farooqui, Chairman Delhi Minority Commission, Mr. Anis Anari, Ex Addl. Chief Secretary UP, Mr. Raja Mahmudabad,  Mr. Siraj Chowdhari, CEO, Cargil India, Mr. A.W. Khan of UNESCO, Maulana Abdul Hameed Nomani from Jamiatul Ulema Hind and Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas of AIMPLB shared their thoughts.

Mr. Mujtaba Farooq, Secretary Jamaat-e-Islami Hind delivered welcome-note and Mr. MJ Khan, President NEFM briefed the issue to the participants.
