The heinous act of encounter killing is surely deplorable. It has been making headlines in Mumbai since 1980s. Few underworld gangsters were cold bloodedly killed in fake encounters, and it is still going on in the name of fighting terrorism. Later the same method was applied in Punjab and Kashmir also, where thousands of innocent people were killed in fake encounters.
The need of the hour is that all those held responsible for staging encounter killings, irrespective of their positions and status, be awarded due punishment so that the society may come to respect human life and the chapter of fake encounters may come to a close.
