The police on October 14 arrested Sanjay Chauhan from Baheri, a locality in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh on the charge of blaspheming the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be to him) on Facebook. The accused, a student of B. Tech, had reportedly posted some objectionable material on Islam and the last Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be to him) on the social networking site and got it shared with public. When Shanu Raza, a resident of the same locality, accessed his Facebook account and found the objectionable material floating on the internet, he informed the police. As the news spread out, people gathered in a large number to show their inconvenience. But the police was very quick to put the situation in control by getting the objectionable material removed from the site. Then it took the accused into custody and started investigating the matter.
