According to media reports that respected A.P. AboobackarMusliar, 94-year-old Grand Mufti of India, used his good offices and pleaded with the leaders in Yemen to reconsider the decision of hanging of Nimisha Priya, a Keralite Hindu. She is responsible for killing her Muslim business partner.

Respected Grand Mufti’s efforts have yielded the results and the Yemen authorities have postponed the hanging. When Indian Government’s efforts and all back-door diplomatic channels failed, respected AboobckerMusliar’s efforts is likely to save the life of a proven culprit. He politely said that he did so giving priority to humanity and compassion towards others, the basic teachings of Islam.

Let me quote a verse from the Vedas, “May my life, each breath of life, the eyes, the ears, the speech, the mind, the soul and all other acts and deeds, be put to the service of humankind.” (Yajur Veda 18,29)

Will the present dispensation headed by Shri Narendra Modi change its policy and approach towards Muslims and other minorities taking into consideration the actions of the Grand Mufti and verses from the Yajur Veda?

Dalits Deserve Respect

The shocking incident in which a Dalit youth was assaulted and paraded in Ludhiana over the elopement case of a friend, made for distressful reading. Dalits have always been at the receiving end of oppressive tactics by other sections of society and are an easy target despite the enactment of several laws for their protection. The perpetrators of such crimes should be identified and severely punished for Dalits, like anyone else, deserve a respectful status under the law. One also wonders what the local police were doing when this incident was happening. Should they not have come to the rescue of the hapless youth?

Muslim World Needs Unity

Your scholarly editorial (29June 2025) rightly says that there are as many as 57 independent Muslim countries teemed with abundant human and natural resources in the world. Nevertheless, most of them are now under the hegemonic influence of the US and the West which are evermore making collusions how to destabilise and undo Muslim power and thereby how to wipe Islam and Muslims out of the surface of the world.  You have invited the Muslim unity so as to extend its all help and support to Iran invaded by Israel-US. If Iran is defeated in the war (may Allah save it!), it would pave the way for the enemy of Islam to expropriate other Muslim countries, one after another.

The governments in most Muslim countries are formed on monarchism and undemocratic way. They seem to be more submissive, loyal and fearful to the US and its allies than to Allah, the Lord of all. To keep their governments survived, the US troops are stationed in different air-bases set up in their countries. In fact, it symbolises their slavery to the US and its allies.

However, it is the need of hour for the Muslim world to stand united for its defence and welfare in both worlds. How can it get united? Muslims believe in Allah as their only Lord; hence they have to submit in unison to the Will of Allah (the Qura’n and Sunnah) revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ so as to get themselves united for resolving all problems being faced by them. Allah invites in the Qur’an: “O ye who believe! Come, all of you together into the fold of Islam; and follow not the footsteps of the Satan. Lo! The Satan is an open enemy to you.” (2:208, 3:103). “Lose not your heart nor fall into despair. Ye must gain mastery if ye are true in faith.” (3:139).
