The Union Government is planning to convert three centres of the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, into full-fledged universities. The HRD Minister and the Minority Affairs Minister have recently discussed the matter. But there was no consensus whether these would be central universities or minority universities. These three centres are Murshidabad in West Bengal, Malappuram in Kerala and Kishanganj in Bihar. Two among them are already functioning while the centre at Kishanganj is yet to start working. Earlier, the university decided to set up its five off-campuses each in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and in the states mentioned above.
Meanwhile, the university has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Wisconsin Madison, United States of America. The MoU will allow exchanging students of the two universities for three yearsduration.
