Last decade saw a huge information explosion, which silently changed the world. Media has penetrated into the core of human life. But, due to insufficient number of Islamic media organisations, there is misconception about Islam and Muslims, which, most of the time, are painted with worst possible colours, said Muhammad Iqbal Mulla, Secretary Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) at the inaugural function of the a website, www.islamic-videos.com at the Indian Law Institute in the national capital on May 30.

He further said only a little number of people are aware of real meaning of Islam, and as such most of the Islamic terms are wrongly interpreted and distorted. Hence this website to remove misconception, to convey the holy message, and to propagate the pious words and deeds of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be to him).

He said that internet travelled to India in 1995. Today the country has more than six million net users – which make it the 3rd largest country of net surfers in Asia.

However, he reminded the audience that media can make or mar a society. Media can reach places where, sometimes our government, police, judiciary, etc. fail to reach. But it is sad that in the world of information explosion, global media seems to ignore Almighty Allah – the Creator, Nourisher and Master of the universe. Media also pays little attention to the world hereafter and safe migration from this world to the hereafter. He said sometimes our police and judiciary fail to bring the culprit to book, while only faith in Allah and in the hereafter can stop the culprit in doing wrongs.

He thanked C9 softwares & solution, which designed and executed the project.

Zafarul Islam Khan, Editor Milli Gazette, reminded the audience of the rich tradition of JIH to convey the holy message through literature and media. JIH has been serving society by publishing magazines in different languages since pre-Independence days. He said science has penetrated into our lives as a silent movement and completely changed the world. Publishing magazines and newspapers has become much easier than ever before. He said today a correspondent residing in Delhi can write and maintain his place in a newspaper in Washington with much ease.

He, however, lamented that Muslims have little share in this boon. Other communities invent and develop new technologies, while the Muslims fail even to read the information. He said if we cannot invent something instantly, endeavour should be made to innovate something – as China and Japan are doing.

He said the community must have its own estimated newspapers and TV channels, so that when the Ulema need to deliver a sermon or a fatwa, they can use such a medium instead of letting the other news agencies distort the facts.

He also suggested that there should be an option in the newly inaugurated website to upload videos by common man. And there should be dozens of such websites so that when one searches for information about Islam, one could be satisfied.

Maulana Mohammad Jafar, Vice President JIH, said that Muslims failed to touch the benchmark cannot be ruled out. But we should not lose faith in Almighty Allah, Who can turn the weaknesses of the community into its strength. He, however, clarified that only JIH cannot cater to the needs of the community. There is a need for co-operation from everybody.

He welcomed the suggestions advanced by the audience and assured them to consider an option to upload videos by aam admi.

Absar-ul-Haque, project manager of C9 softwares, said that the website is at its initial stage which needs a large number of visitors and their valuable suggestions and feedbacks for better service. He clarified that this multilingual site only serves Islamic Videos. Endeavours are on to share its link with other sites to promote it. Assistant Secretary JIH Jaleel Asghar extended vote of thanks.
