Minister for Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid called upon the Central Waqf Council to play an important role in resolving the pending issues of Waqf properties. Chairing the 57th meeting of the Council in the Capital, Mr Khurshid said that in view of the Wakf Amendment Bill (which is now before the Select Committee of the Parliament), the present Council had very significant role to play on the question of development of Waqf properties and computerization of Waqf Boards etc. After the amendment, the role of the Council is likely to extend making it more effective, he said.

Important issues like 123 Wakf properties of Delhi, re-unification of Punjab Wakf Board consisting of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh & U T of Chandigarh were discussed. The Minister told the Members that after the direction of the High Court in the case of 123 Wakf properties of Delhi, the Ministry of Urban Development was working on it and he himself was in touch with them. He expressed the hope that the matter would be resolved legally.
