Predicting future is almost impossible, yet we can visualise it to a great extent. GDP is a major factor in determining the position of a country. At present the top 10 countries have the following GDP (in trillion dollars): (1) USA: 30.5t (2) China: 19.23t (3) Germany: 4.74t (4) India: 4.18t (5) Japan: 4.18t (6) UK 3.83t (7) France: 3.2t (8) Italy: 2.42t (9) Canada: 2.22t (10) Brazil 2.12t.
But GDP is not the only criterion for ranking a country. A number of factors have to be taken into account to determine the greatness of a country. For example, the rate of economic growth, socio-economic progress, education, the under-completion projects, the military power, and diplomatic relations also are important factors.
Latest surveys and projections have predictedwhich countries would be the most important, strong and developed to be the top 10 counties in 1930. The ranking on the Human Development Index (HDI) also would be taken into account. It is expected that in 2030, the top 10 countries having a say in shaping the future of humanity would be as follows: (1) China (2) India (3) USA (4) Indonesia (5) Türkiye (6) Brazil (7) Egypt (8) Russia (9) Japan (10) Germany. It is good news for us Indians that our country may become the second most important country of the world. It would be able to play an important role in the world.
Our present domestic condition is far from satisfactory. Our moral stature is not strong. We do lack the sense of justice and sympathy towards our fellow citizens. We suffer from lack of civic sense. Even our judicial system is faulty and below the mark in dispensing justice to the masses, especially to the poor and deprived segments of citizens. From top to bottom we lack honesty, integrity and fellow feeling. The wealth and resourcesare concentrated only in the hands of about 5 percent wealthy persons. At the top our political class is suffering from a deficit of honesty, integrity and enthusiasm for selfless service to the citizens. They are selfish, dishonest and narrow-minded.
If we look at the positive factors in the country, they are plenty. We are the most populated country of 145 crore human beings with the greatest dividend of the youngest population in the whole world. We can educate, train and make them a precious asset for the country and humanity.
In this respect our political class is miserably lagging behind and is a hurdle in the comprehensive development and progress of the nation. One disturbing factor is the divide and rule policy of the present ruling dispensation. The ruling party has builtits whole edifice on hate, discrimination and injustice to Muslims, Christians, Dalits and other deprived sections. It is very unfortunate that BJP’s tendency to target Muslims is growing day by day.
Therefore, either the ruling BJP should change its policy of hate and discrimination and adopt an all-inclusive, broad-based and non-communal strategy, otherwise there should be change of hands. If we the Indians succeed in changing the mentality of the ruling class and force it to adopt a positive correction of courseit would be good for the country. Only positive policies would ensure the welfare of the whole nation. A non-communal, hate-free approach is a must.Otherwise, the dream of becoming a great nation of social, economic, and moral excellence will remain a dream only or an unfulfilled wish.
