Eleven innocent Muslims, who had been implicated in the communal violence that erupted in the national capital immediately after the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition, have been released by the Additional Sessions Judge due to lack of evidence. Police could not bring any substantial proof to support their claim. Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar delivered the verdict on May 3. The lawyer of the released Muslims, Mohammad Saleem said Delhi Police implicated all the 11 in the communal clashes which erupted in the city after the Babri Masjid demolition and framed cases against them on Jan 26, 1993. Sections 147, 148, 149, 302 of Indian Penal Code and three Sections of TADA were slapped on them. The release of all the 11 accused points to the fact that all the 11 were wrongly implicated by the police and were innocent, he added. The names of the acquitted individuals are Mohd. Iftikhar, Mohd. Ashfaq, Mohd, Mushtaq, Aslam, Raees s/o Jameel, Naumi, Mohd. Saleem, Mohd. Habib, Mohd. Akhlaq, Mohd. Imran and Raees s/o Chhaamoo.
