The Gujarat High Court has acquitted 12 Muslims implicated in the murder of HarenPandya, former Home Minister of Gujarat. Pandya was shot dead on March 26, 2003, near Law Garden area in Ahmedabad. The Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mr. Nusrat Ali has welcomed the High Court move and asked the Gujarat government to give adequate compensation to the people who have been undergoing through stress since then.
The Jamaat leader, in a press statement, said that the Muslims in Gujarat suffered huge losses of lives as well as property in the 2002 pogrom, and it was expected from the state administration to reflect upon its incompetence and make the environment peaceful and smooth, but instead it started implicating Muslims in fake cases and started fake encounters which is something inappropriate for any government.
The Jammat leader expressed optimism and said that this move will help in giving justice to other Muslims, who are still facing concocted charges. Ali urged the Gujarat government that the acquittal of the 12 Muslims directs us to the point that the real culprits in the case should be nabbed.
