Thirteen members of the British Muslim community have been awarded for their varying contribution to society in the New Year’s Honours. They are as under:
Knights Bachelor: Judge Goolam Hoosen Kader Meeran, for services to the administration of justice. Order of British Empire (OBE) Civil: Salima Hafejee, Dir, Bradford Youth Development Partnership, for services to community relations in West Yorkshire. Dr Musharraf Hussain, Dir, Karimia Institute, for services to community relations. Anis Rahman, for services to Bangladeshi people. MBE: Enam Ali, for services to the Indian & Bangladeshi restaurant industry. Ishtiaq Ali, for services to the community in Lancashire. Muhammed Irfan Faizi Chishti, Imam, HM Prisons Forest Bank & Buckley Hall, for services to Muslim people. Mamun Rashid Chowdhury, for voluntary service to Asian community football in East London. Ebrahim Dockrat, for services to the community in West Yorkshire. Zafar Iqbal, Chairman of Gov, Bordesley Green Girls School, for services to education. Tamsila Tauqir, for services to the Muslim community. Overseas OBE: Iftikhar Ahmed Khan, for services to UK/Bangladesh trade, development relations & corporate social responsibility. Queen’s Police Medal. QPM: Makhdum Ali Chishty. Superintendent, Warwickshire Police.
