Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has termed the decision of the Central Government to allot 4.5 per cent sub quota within the OBC quota as an insincere step toward fulfilling the rights of Muslims and a move in sharp contrast with the demands of equity and justice.

In a statement on Dec. 23, JIH Secretary-General Nusrat Ali said that this move of the Government violates the very spirit of the recommendations of Justice Ranganath Misra Commission and Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee. Expressing his utter surprise on the move, Mr. Ali said the Government does appoint commissions and committees on the excesses and injustices done to the Muslims, but it either puts their recommendations under the carpet or having acted on them partly tries to satisfy the Muslims.

The JIH leader further said that the basic demand of Muslims is that they be given reservation as a community in the light of Justice Sachar Committee Report, and implement the recommendation of Justice Ranganath Commission to earmark 10 per cent reservation solely for Muslims.

“It is a matter of grave concern that the Government did not pay heed to the recommendations of the Ranganath Commission and Sachar Committee, not to say of fulfilling the demands of Muslims,” he said.

The JIH leader once again drew the attention of the Government that it should take sincere and just steps towards umpteen issues confronting the largest minority in the country.
