The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell of Mumbai police, probing the case of the anti-Muslim movie “Innocence of Islam,” has blocked 89 videos of the movie. Senior police officials in the crime branch said the origin of videos uploaded on the YouTube have been traced in the US, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The movie was produced and directed by American director-producer Sam Bacile and had sparked riots in many countries including India which led to the death of hundreds of people. Following the violent reactions from Muslims, the crime branch registered a case based on advocate Zulfiqar Memon’s complaint against Bacile and five others. “We took help from Delhi-based Computer Emergency Response Team and got a warrant against the accused from the Esplanade court. The warrants were sent to service providers and they were asked to block videos,” said Niket Kaushik, additional commissioner crime branch.
Meanwhile, the cybercrime police has blocked 25 Facebook pages that created tension in Malad, Malwani and Kandivali areas of Mumbai. The pages allegedly had derogatory comments on Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be to him).
