The controversy surrounding around 9/11 attacks is refusing to die. From day one there have been grave doubts about the real perpetrators of these attacks which killed about 3000 innocent people. These attacks mark a watershed in US attitude towards the Muslim world. President Bush made full use of this event to pursue his agenda of greater degree of intervention in Muslim world by first occupying Afghanistan in October 2001 and thereafter attacking Iraq in March 2003. Now in spite of the ruse of withdrawal from Iraq the US has a permanent say in Iraq which produces 11 per cent oil of the world. Now the US companies control over 60 per cent oil of Iraq.

Scores of investigative films have been made on 9/11 and scores of books are available on this subject. You can visit websites like whatreallyhappened.com, reopen9/11.org, lonelantern.org, etc. to get a deeper understanding of this reality of the attacks.

The indomitable president of Iran Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has shown exemplary courage of standing to challenge the American hegemony, has given a fresh lease of life to 9/11 conspiracy theory by referring to it in his speech to UN General Assembly on September 23. He hinted that these attacks were used to occupy Afghanistan and Iran which resulted in the killing of hundreds of thousands of people.

He analysed the three views held about the people or groups responsible for 9/11 tragedy. First view is that a very powerful and complex terrorist group was able to successfully cross layers of the US intelligence and security and carry out the attacks. Second view is that some segments within the US government, which he did not specify, orchestrated the attacks to reverse the declining US economy and its grip on the Middle East. The third view, according to Ahmadinejad, is that though the attacks were carried out by a group which had no connection with the US administration yet the US government took full advantage of the situation to carry forward its plan to strengthen its hegemony in the world by starting a war on terror.

Iranian President threw the bombshell by demanding an independent UN enquiry to go into the reality of the 9/11 attacks. He also announced that next year his country will host a conference to study terrorism and the means to confront it. It is implicit that the 9/11 attacks also would be discussed in that conference.

The sting in Iranian President’s demand produced an expected reaction and the next day Mr. Obama called his remarks offensive, hateful and inexcusable. Notwithstanding the US reaction, the world requires clear answers to the questions raised about the attacks. It is in the interest of truth and justice that the reality behind the 9/11 must be brought out and perpetrators brought to book. The world is constantly refusing to buy the theory that a gang of 19 inexperienced young men were able to hoodwink the US intelligence network and penetrate the security apparatus and execute the terror plan.
