The All India Students’ Association held a protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar in the Capital on December 14 against the “admission cancellation” of 300 Jamia Millia Islamia students because of short attendance. Students from Jamia, Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University participated in the protest. The protesters claimed that the students were not warned prior to the cancellation of their admissions. According to an AISA activist, the students whose admissions were cancelled this past week were enrolled in numerous courses in Jamia. The AISA alleged in a statement that there were irregularities in the attendance taken in class and claimed that the Jamia administration was “trying to shut all possibilities of students’ protests on the issue by hiring video cameras to monitor activities of students.” Jamia media coordinator Dr. Simi Malhotra said: “The 300 students who were suspended have less than 60 % attendance.”
