A Litmus Test for the UPA

That the Liberhan Commission which was asked to submit a report on the Babri Masjid demolition within a period of three months – has done the job after 17 years with 48 extensions – speaks volumes about the adage ‘justice delayed is justice denied’.

That the Liberhan Commission which was asked to submit a report on the Babri Masjid demolition within a period of three months – has done the job after 17 years with 48 extensions – speaks volumes about the adage ‘justice delayed is justice denied’. Far from being remorseful, we are already seeing the likes of Uma Bharti who are trying to derive political mileage out of this unfortunate event. There is a general perception among the people that ‘Commissions’ are a wasteful exercise and only meant to obfuscate the judicial process. With almost all commission reports submitted hitherto not seeing the light of the day; one wonders whether the Liberhan Commission Report could be different! The Liberhan Commission report would be a litmus test to the political will of the UPA government to pursue the findings.
