Britain’s denial of Dr. Zakir Naik’s entry on its land is to be condemned in no uncertain terms. What happened to their esteemed ideals of freedom of speech and expression? The rest of the world is waking up to this sad reality that they can believe in the empty slogans at their own peril. These so called ideals are convenient terms to instruct and lecture the lesser mortals. When it comes to practising what one preaches, the West always has a dismal record.
Ideals are the moral stands an individual, society or nation takes even at its own cost. West has never been idealistic in the real sense. It has always mocked at those who believed in their ‘ideals’. The relative moral high ground (among the Western countries) displayed till now by Great Britain was just a thin veneer to hide its frustration of playing a second fiddle to the US on the global stage.
The real ideals of the West are obviously different. It has got now, nothing more to offer to the world except hedonism, sex and violence. It is getting terrorised on seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. For the emperors of darkness, light is a symbol of terror. But all these years it was quite successful in masquerading this ugly reality with fancy slogans. And the rest of the world in their innocence believed in them.
But of late, the West has become a little less careful in hiding its real face, as shown by its hyper reaction and defensiveness, which are the signs of an insecure, crumbling and weakening culture.
Hence this highly detestable action is not a “mockery of the ideals of the West” as there are, in reality, no more moral ideals remaining in the West. It is indeed a “mockery of human values”.
