A multi-specialty hospital is coming soon in Dawat Nagar, Abul Fazal Enclave. The construction work of the 300-bed Al-Shifa hospital is going in full swing. CEO of Al-Shifa hospital, Brig. Zafar Ali, says the purpose of establishing the hospital in this locality is to provide cheap health care facility to the poor.

“The Al-Shifa hospital will treat people who cannot afford treatment in five-star hospitals. We are doing our best to get trained doctors,” says Ali, who is looking after day-to-day work of the hospital. The hospital will provide cheap health care facilities like obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and neonatology, internal medicine (general medicine) and general surgery. Besides, the Al-Shifa hospital will provide specialist consultation in cardiology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, endocrinology, neurology, nephrology, pulmonology, ENT, dermatology, dental and ophthalmology.

Also, the hospital will provide other medical services and facility like casualty and emergency (24X7), labour delivery, neonatal ICU, operation theatres, ICU and surgical ICU, clinical lab, imaging services (CT, X-ray, Ultrasound), diagnostics (ECG, TMT, EEG, EMG, Spirometry etc), consultation room (separate for women), pharmacy, physiotherapy, comfortable waiting areas, accommodation (Deluxe, Single and General). The hospital will be self-dependent, and medical expenses of poor patients will be looked after, says Ali. The hospital plans to have a separate organization that will bear medical cost of poor patients. Its main aim is providing cheap health care facility. That doesn’t mean that everything will come for free.

Ali says for some treatments like heart surgery, angioplasty, neurosurgery, laser treatment and others the hospital will charge. However, he further added, that it will be nominal. “Our aim is to provide cheap health care facilities at an affordable cost,” says Ali.

In the first phase, efforts are on to complete work on outpatient department, inpatient department accommodating 40 beds and a diagnostic centre. The process of purchasing of medical equipments, machineries has already started.

The Advisory Board and Managing Committee of Al-Shifa hospital have already been constituted. The Al-Shifa Multi-specialty hospital is the brainchild of Human Welfare Trust.
